Whenever I'm reading I keep a notebook close by to write down text fragments that stand out to me. These notebooks end up as a collage of what I have been reading recently. Some common themes tended to emerge from these fragments such as: confusion, a search for meaning, and an interest in time and place.
This album includes four new solo pieces of mine that all have their original origin in a specific fragment from these collages.
The pieces themselves were all developed through close collaboration with the solo performers. All of the four performers are very close friends of mine so it made for a very open dialogue with a lot of trust. My focus was on developing extended techniques that allowed for the performers to have a strong sense of freedom with the piece.
